It’s that time again folks! No, we don’t mean that it’s time to sit directly in from of the A/C because it’s summer and just way too dang hot to wear pants (although, this is pretty true as well). We mean that it’s San Diego Comic-Con time! A wondrous time where nerds from all areas of pop culture—from movies and television to videos and of course comic books—unite to celebrate and share the love that comes with being a fan.
We’re right in the thick of it here at the San Diego Convention Center, and like with every SDCC there’s so much to see and do in the coming days that the mere thought of it is enough to make us break out into cartwheels (if there was room for such craziness on the show floor)—especially here at the DC Entertainment Booth (#1915) and at our many, many panels! In fact, for this week’s column, we thought it made sense to give you the 5.2 Reasons DCE is the Place to Be at SDCC!
1. Superman’s 75th Anniversary
This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the Man of Steel, and DC Entertainment is planning more than a few events to celebrate. Two really big ones include the Superman 75th Celebration Panel (held on Saturday, July 20, at 4:15 pm in Room 6A) and two Superman 75th Celebration signings taking place at the DC Entertainment Booth. For those that have some free time in the morning, there’s a signing on Saturday at 12:30pm and another signing following the panel at 5:30pm.
2. Superman Costumes Galore
Of course, signings aren’t the only celebratory Superman events going on. At the DCE Booth, we have on display eight, count ‘em, EIGHT, costumes from throughout the Man of Steel’s live-action career: the Superman costume worn by Christopher Reeve in the original 1978 Superman film, the “evil” Superman costume worn by Reeve from Superman III, the costume from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman worn by Dean Cain, Tom Welling’s “blur” costume from the Smallville television series, the costume worn by Brandon Routh in Superman Returns, and three costumes from Man of Steel worn by Henry Cavill.
3. Batman: The Animated Series Turns 21 Panel
The Emmy Award-winning Batman: The Animated Series changed how many fans saw the Dark Knight. To this day, some still associate the character with voice actor Kevin Conroy and hear his voice when reading the comics. It’s been 21 years since the show’s debut, but rather than sitting around suddenly feeling old, if you’re at SDCC you can reminisce and remember the incredible series with creators Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Alan Burnett and Eric Radomski on Saturday at 5:45 pm in Room 6DE.
4. Neil. Gaiman.
This one really speaks for itself. Be in Room 6DE on Saturday at 3:15pm for the Vertigo: Sandman 25th Anniversary and Beyond Panel.
5. DC Comics Video Games
Also present at the DCE Booth are playable demos of a number of video games, including the upcoming Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure, the Infinite Crisis MOBA, and the highly anticipated follow-up to the best-selling Batman: Arkham City, Batman: Arkham Origins!
5.1 Tons of Stage Presentations
From game demos to presentations by artists like Jim Lee, Amanda Conner and Gary Frank, the DCE Stage has a lot planned for fans to enjoy. Check out this video of Dustin Nguyen drawing onstage from last year’s SDCC.
5.2 Signings, Signings, Signings
Jim Lee, Geoff Johns, Scott Snyder, Grant Morrison—the list goes on and on!
Of course, signings are subject to change, so in order to keep up with the latest information on everything going on with DCE at SDCC, download the all-new DC Events App! See you all on the show floor!
