Where is that darn business office?

As some of you have noticed I'm on a FABLES kick--I recently posted about all the SDCC announcements, the upcoming CINDERELLA mini-series, and just yesterday PETER & MAX. FABLES issue #87 is the start of a new arc called The Witches. At it's heart is an inside look at the many witches of the 13th floor and one of my favorite animal characters, Bufkin the flying monkey. I know, weird right? I think it's because, as a child, the creatures were so scary to me in The Wizard of Oz, yet turned out to be good in the end, that I became fascinated by them. Bufkin can often be found putting books on the high shelves of the business office, but since the collapse of Fabletown, the office has gone missing and now Bufkin's trapped with the evil Baba Yaga and must endure her wrath.

In my excitement for all things FABLES I want to give you a peek inside issue #87.

Yep, this 5 issue arc is gonna be good!

The major announcement today is that Bigby Wolf will be the protagonist of his very own ogn. Fables: Werewolves in the Heartland an original graphic novel written by Bill Willingham with art by Jim Fern. Bigby Wolf takes center stage in an action packed story full of sex, violence, intrigue and daring escapes, as he sets out on a quest across the US to find a new location for Fabletown.

And for those in attendance a special one sheet Fables story written by Willingham with art by Mark Buckingham was handed out.

What? You wish you could read that story?

Well, for the first time EVER you can.

As Willingham himself puts it,"In the past two years we've handed out one-page Fables comics at the San Diego show that were basically throwaway gag pages. For the first time we decided to go the other way and do a serious, very dramatic Fables story, one that has far-reaching consequences for the series to follow. This one-page comic hints at what the second hundred issues of Fables will all be about."

Here it is. ENJOY!

Fables SDCC09REV

For those of you who couldn’t make it to the show or if you missed any of the DC COMICS panels, or, you just want to relive the experience again, you can find photos, podcasts from the panels, and other information, here.

The Eisner's

At last night's 2009 Eisner Awards Vertigo won in a couple of categories:

Best Cover Artist James Jean for FABLES and Dark Horse's The Umbrella Academy
and Best Writer Bill Wllingham for FABLES

So there will be plenty of celebrating at today's panel!

I hope you're enjoying the show!

The Darkness

And no, I’m not referring to the band. I’m referring to Mr. Dark, you know, the creepy guy who destroyed Fabletown and now has a bunch of zombies working for him. Who is he? What’s his story and how did he end up in that magical box he was released from not too long ago? Find out about his dark past and what a young man named Dunster Happ, who spent centuries at the Black Monastery, has to do with it.

After 3 issues of FABLES a month for the past 3 months it seems so long until the next issue. So, here’s a look at what awaits you in FABLES #86.
