When I started working on Sweet Tooth three years ago I thought I’d be lucky if the series made it ten issues. I never dreamed I’d be able to tell the kind of sprawling, 40-issue epic that it ended up becoming. In many ways Sweet Tooth’s likelihood of survival in the competitive comics market was about as great as Gus’ likelihood of survival in the post-apocalyptic world he inhabits. After all, who would have bet on a weird little book about a boy with antlers ever surviving in a market flooded with blockbuster cape and tight titles? But somehow it did.
I’m back! Did you miss me? (don’t answer that…)
Way back in January I teased some clues about upcoming stuff in the books I edit. One of the clues I gave was “sharpen those blades.” Some people might have thought I was talking about Northlanders. Nope, it was Sweet Tooth 32. This issue has one of my favorite scenes ever. The blades I was talking about? Hockey skates. Check it out, you’ll see…
Groundhog day is coming up later this week. This is the day when we hope for an early spring and re-watch one of the greatest movies of all time (“This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off waiting to worship a rat…”) But I’d like to take a moment this Groundhog Day to pay homage to another fuzzy little fella who likes to burrow in the ground—BOBBY.
