As the holidays arrive and the year comes to a close, we thought we’d take a look back at 2013 and commemorate some of the moments that really stood out in the world of DC Entertainment in a two-week DCComics.com series we’re calling “Ten Moments that Mattered.” Some of these moments were happy. Some were sad. They played out in the pages of our comics, on the big and small screen and in the halls of our office. However, all of them made a profound difference in the world of DC Comics and in the hearts and minds of our fans.
Twenty-five years ago THE SANDMAN entered our dreams.
The New York Times best-selling author Neil Gaiman returns to the world of The Endless with a new story – THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE, with the first installment of the six-issue series hitting stores and available digitally today. The comic marks Gaiman’s first Sandman story in 10 years.
Earlier this month we gave you an early look at our upcoming The Sandman: Overture Statue as part of Vertigo’s “25 Days of Sandman.” Produced by DC Collectibles and due in 2014, the statue is based off of the art of J.H. Williams III and is sculpted by Dave Cortes.
In less than two weeks, legendary writer Neil Gaiman returns to THE SANDMAN, the series that changed the landscape of modern comics twenty-five years ago.
THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE #1 is the first chapter of a 6-issue limited, bimonthly series that explores (amongst much more) just what happened to Morpheus before he was captured in THE SANDMAN #1. Illustrated by J.H. Williams III, this highly anticipated inaugural issue lands in stores on October 30.
Remember the first time you entered the world of The Endless? Whether you were there from the beginning with THE SANDMAN #1 or you joined at some point in the last twenty-five years, every fan can recall their first memory of THE SANDMAN.
With this installment of the 25 Days of Sandman, we asked many of the artists that have helped bring Neil Gaiman’s THE SANDMAN to life to share their first memories on the job.
