Preview Monday: BATMAN #21 and AMERICAN VAMPIRE: THE LONG ROAD TO HELL #1

Welcome back for another installment of Preview Monday! This week we’re giving you exclusive first looks at BATMAN #21 and AMERICAN VAMPIRE: THE LONG ROAD TO HELL #1.

The tale may be legend but the Dark Knight’s New 52 origin has been shrouded in mystery … until now. Six years ago, Gotham City was ruled by the Red Hood gang and their mysterious leader. A sophisticated collection of anonymous Gothamites, the Red Hoods existed as sleeper agents and stood ready to answer their master’s call at a moment’s notice. Meanwhile, a young and untested Bruce Wayne, legally dead and long since forgotten, arrives in the city ready to take on its new criminal overlord. Can Bruce tackle the Red Hoods without the cowl of the Dark Knight? And what sort of plans does Bruce’s uncle, his enigmatic advisor, have for the heir to Wayne Industries? From the acclaimed and New York Times bestselling creative team of Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, BATMAN #21 kicks off the explosive and highly anticipated “Zero Year.” And visit THE NEW YORK POST for another exclusive preview of the issue, which hits stores this week.

They say the road to Hell is paved with good intentions … and that couldn’t be truer for Billy Bob and Jolene; two star-crossed lovers just trying to pick pocket their way to married bliss and a better life for them both. But when this couple is inducted into the ranks of the undead, their dreams of a bright future give way to a vision of America’s dark underbelly. Now Billy Bob and Jolene are streaking across the country, driven by an insatiable hunger, guided by a boy named Jasper with a penchant for finding ‘bad people’ and desperately hoping to find a rumored cure in Las Vegas. Can Billy Bob and Jolene, dubbed by the media as ‘The Heartbreak Killers’, outrun the darkness growing within them and the mysterious hunter who’s hot on their heels? Find out in AMERICAN VAMPIRE: THE LONG ROAD TO HELL #1, a special one-shot and the latest entry in the extraordinary AMERICAN VAMPIRE saga from co-writers Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque with art by Rafael Albuquerque.

DC Comics’ C2E2 exclusive variant covers envelop three of our most popular series! Priced at $10 each, ACTION COMICS #19 with art by Tony S. Daniel, BATMAN #17 with art by Greg Capullo, and JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 with art by David Finch.

The DC Collectibles C2E2 exclusives featuring Green Lantern’s Guy Gardner and Larfleeze and DC Nation’s Aardman Batman & Robin were announced earlier this month.

In addition, DC Fan Family will be sponsoring key Kid’s Day programming and DC Entertainment will be distributing an array of kids comic books to children throughout Kid’s Day on Sunday.

And if you happen to be headed to the convention at McCormick Place and you see a bus wrapped in Justice League artwork by Jim Lee, take a picture and more importantly, hop on. DC Entertainment video highlights will be playing and comic books will be handed out as you enter.

Not to mention, some of the most prominent DC Entertainment writers and artists in the industry will be appearing at the show including; local Chicagoans Brian Azzarello, Tony Daniel and Chris Burnham along with talent from across the country and, in some instances the world, including, Peter J. Tomasi, James Tynion IV, Justin Jordan, Pat Gleason, John Layman, Doug Mahnke, Jimmy Palmiotti, Joe Prado, Ray Fawkes, Freddie Williams II, Art Baltazar and Franco.

AMERICAN VAMPIRE celebrates summer blockbuster story “The Blacklist” with five variant covers.

This one changes everything.

I know you hear that all the time in comics, but we REALLY mean it this time. This summer’s blockbuster AMERICAN VAMPIRE storyline is called “The Blacklist,” and the whole gang returns to the place where it all started—Hollywood. But this time it’s the 50’s, so instead of flappers and silent films, tinsel-town is drenched in the fear and paranoia of the Communist “Red Scare.”

Massive turning point. Game-changer. Point of no return…call it what you want, but this one really does change everything.

And because this is such a massive story, we’ve decided to celebrate with not one but FIVE variant covers! Some of the biggest, best names in comics, paying tribute to the various decades, characters and locations we’ve covered in AV so far…

Starting this June with AMERICAN VAMPIRE 28 we have our first variant cover by Scott Snyder’s partner-in-crime over on BATMAN—Greg Capullo! Greg kicks it off with this bad-ass portrait of everybody’s favorite greaser vampire-killer Travis Kidd!

After Greg we have killer covers coming from DAVE JOHNSON, JOCK, FRANCESCO FRANCAVILLA and DUSTIN NGUYEN! Come back here each month for more cover reveals.

Speaking of Dustin, don’t forget to check out our awesome new mini-series also starting this June—AMERICAN VAMPIRE: LORD OF NIGHTMARES. Written by Scott Snyder with sensational art by Dustin, this mini is a great jumping-on point for new readers, and also deepens the mythology for long-time fans.

So it’s another big, fang-filled summer from AMERICAN VAMPIRE and remember—this one changes everything!
